Therapy Approaches Used in Sessions

The work is integrative. Rather than following one method, sessions draw on four approaches, chosen according to what you bring and how you prefer to work. All four are used in online counselling in English, for adults and couples in Myanmar and Thailand.

Narrative Therapy

Looks at the stories you tell about your life, separates you from the problem, and helps you find a story that fits you better. Narrative therapy

Somatic Work

Brings attention to body sensations alongside thoughts and feelings, so that stress responses can settle at a pace you can manage. Drawn from Somatic Experiencing. Somatic work

Parts Work

Helps you understand the sides of yourself that pull in different directions, including the parts that protect against old pain. Drawn from Internal Family Systems (IFS). Parts work

CBT Techniques and Mindfulness

Practical tools for noticing and testing patterns of thought and behaviour, and short practices for staying with the present moment. CBT techniques and mindfulness

How the Approaches Fit Together

A session might start with what happened this week, use a CBT technique on a specific worry, pause to notice what the body is doing, and end by looking at the larger story the worry belongs to. What is being tried, and why, is explained as you go, and you can say what suits you.

Training

Sessions are with a US-trained, master’s-level therapist who has further training in Somatic Experiencing and in parts work. About the practice gives the full background.
