How Online Counselling Works in Myanmar and Thailand
Closing the Wound offers counselling by video call to adults and couples anywhere in Myanmar and Thailand. Sessions are in English, with a US-trained, master’s-level therapist. This page explains what a session needs, how your privacy is protected and how to start.
Is Online Therapy Available in Myanmar?
Yes. Online counselling in English is available to you anywhere in Myanmar, in Yangon, Mandalay or a smaller town, and anywhere in Thailand. Sessions take place by video call and are arranged by email.
Can Therapy Be Done Online?
Yes, and research suggests it can work about as well as meeting in person. A 2021 review of studies on therapy by live video found results close to those of in-person therapy, with the difference described as negligible. Effects were larger for CBT than for the other approaches studied (Fernandez and colleagues, 2021). As with any therapy, results vary from person to person.
What a Session Needs
- a private room where you will not be overheard
- a phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone
- headphones, if others are nearby
- 60 or 90 minutes without interruptions
Privacy in Online Sessions
Each session is led from a private room and is not recorded. What you say is confidential, within the limits set out on the Privacy page. Choose a place where you feel able to talk freely, even if that means a different room from the one you usually use.
How Much Does Online Counselling Cost?

How to Start
Email closingthewound@gmail.com to arrange a free 15-minute intro call or a first session. The intro call is a chance to ask questions and see whether working together feels right. A short message is enough. Please leave out clinical details, which are better discussed in session.
How to start therapy explains what happens in the intro call and the first sessions. If you need help urgently, see Emergency contacts.
