Online Counselling for Anxiety
Closing the Wound offers online counselling in English for adults with anxiety, worry or panic, in Myanmar and Thailand. Sessions are with a US-trained, master’s-level therapist. You can start with a free 15-minute intro call.
Common Concerns
People come to counselling for anxiety with concerns such as:
- worry that is hard to switch off
- panic attacks, or fear of the next one
- tension, a racing heart or tight breathing under stress
- avoiding places, people or tasks because of anxiety
- lying awake because your mind will not settle
- anxiety at work or with new people
Anxiety can come together with low mood or the effects of past trauma. Sessions can work with both.
Which Type of Therapy Is Best for Anxiety?
CBT has strong research support for anxiety. A review of 106 meta-analyses found strong support for CBT in anxiety disorders (Hofmann and colleagues, 2012). For generalised anxiety disorder, NICE recommends CBT or applied relaxation, and for panic disorder, CBT. Mindfulness also shows promise: in one trial, an eight-week mindfulness course worked about as well as escitalopram, a common anxiety medication (Hoge and colleagues, 2023).
What Kind of Therapist Is Best for Anxiety?
Look for someone trained in CBT techniques, who explains how they work, and with whom you feel able to be honest. At Closing the Wound, sessions combine CBT techniques with mindfulness, somatic work and parts work, especially when anxiety is tied to older experiences.
Anxiety Counselling in Bangkok or Yangon
If you are looking for an anxiety therapist in Bangkok, Yangon or elsewhere in Thailand or Myanmar, sessions take place online and in English. You join from home or work, so a session adds no commute to a stressful day.
How Sessions Work
Sessions are online and last 60 or 90 minutes. They combine understanding what drives the anxiety with practical tools to use between sessions, such as ways to settle the body and to test anxious predictions. What you practise between sessions is agreed together.
Methods Used
- CBT techniques, for spotting anxious predictions and testing them.
- Mindfulness, for stepping back from worry instead of following it.
- Somatic work, for noticing physical signs of stress and settling them.
- Parts work, for understanding the part of you that worries and what it is trying to protect.
